Swap Wings
Your wingers change sides at the touch of a button, which gives the opposition full-backs a different problem.
FM27 tactics run on two new systems. Tactical Tweaks change your team from the match screen, and Tactical Effectiveness measures how well the squad can carry out your plan. This reference lists all 15 team tweaks and the steps that raise effectiveness before a match.
Tweaks work at team or individual level without a trip to the Tactics screen. Each one stays on until you deselect it, you can stack as many as you like, and staff in the dugout advise when to start or stop one. Some naturally contradict each other, so the table pairs each team tweak with its opposite, in menu order.

Sports Interactive has described these six directly. The rest are named in the menu, so try them in a friendly before you rely on them in a cup tie.
Your wingers change sides at the touch of a button, which gives the opposition full-backs a different problem.
Your goalkeeper joins the attack when you need a last-gasp equaliser.
Players go longer with their passes straight away.
The whole team raises its urgency on your call.
Play moves wider to stretch the opposition.
The team eases off its press during the match.
Tactical Effectiveness shows how likely your squad is to execute your instructions well. Four areas feed gauges on the Tactics, Training and Recruitment screens, and the same reading appears in Scout Reports.
How well players grasp what you ask of them at team level.
A player's capability, and how well it suits the role you give them.
A player's willingness, not ability, to carry out your tactics.
What you know about the coming opponent.
Tactical Complexity measures the volume of team, player and opposition instructions you set. Adding detail is a trade-off, and the right level depends on the squad you manage.
| Measure | Simple plan | Detailed plan |
|---|---|---|
| Early results | Can work straight away | Slow while players adapt |
| Long-term ceiling | Limited | Higher |
| Main risk | Opponents find it out sooner | Too much for a lower-division squad |
Each step targets one area of the breakdown. The score moves with your decisions and with player performances, so check the gauges again after any change.
Next Match Info comes from the quality of that report and your knowledge of their players, so have both ready before the game.
Senior squad sessions can drill pressing, build-up and other phases. Start with the lowest factors under Tactical Understanding.
Player Ability includes role suitability, so move anyone in a role that does not suit them.
Support from you, relationships with teammates and staff, and your tendencies all feed Player Buy-In.
If the squad cannot cope, remove team, player or opposition instructions to lower Tactical Complexity.
Each squad now has its own purpose. Your senior squad concentrates on match preparation, team cohesion and tactical understanding through new sessions.
Two new player instructions decide how a runner enters the penalty area. The options vary by position, and players with higher Anticipation and Off The Ball make better runs.
Shouts stay as your emotional lever and work alongside tweaks. They now act on how players feel rather than on small attribute numbers.
Hawk-Eye Innovations data and motion capture reshape movement, so players run at more believable speeds and can no longer recover ground with sudden acceleration.
The refreshed Match UI supports tile swapping between highlights and layouts that fit your monitor. Heat Maps and Action Zones return in matches and in the Data Hub.
No single setup wins everywhere, because effectiveness depends on your squad's ability, buy-in and understanding. Rival styles can also grow dangerous against yours, so start with a plan your players can learn.
The Tweaks menu lists 15 team tweaks. Attack Box options are separate player instructions, set under In Possession.
No. A tweak runs until you deselect it, and your staff will suggest when to stop.
Tactical Effectiveness builds on it and adds more inputs, including player ability, buy-in and information on the next opponent.
